Fruit of the Rain, Apple of My Eye

“Forget the former things, the things of old, for behold I AM doing a new thing. Look, do you see it!? Do you not perceive it? I AM making a way in the wilderness and rivers in a wasteland.” Isaiah prophecies the voice of God in Isaiah 43:19

Forgot my keys outside. I grumble. Back out into the torrential downpour.

I get to the parking lot and look down. Fascinating.

An apple perhaps once someones lunch now left stranded in the middle of the wet flooding pavement, as they fought with the rain.

I peer in closer to the misplaced fruit. There is something here—sitting in this moment. Something to see in this apple in the rain.

And the churning begins.

The rain does something “artist” to the soul. It seems to stir up the deep, just as the storm that brings it. All of a sudden it begins to burst forth, speaking its journey. Releasing the cleansing. The refreshment.  Sometimes it begins as a drop or maybe a few. And then there is the times of flood, an overflow, an outpouring. The tears, the joy. All the emotion mixed in expression. There is sometimes the dark, and deep rumbling. And yet when it begins to fade. What remains. And a peace settles as droplets stay clinging to life. Everything receives after the rain…drenched in life, clean, made new. “Yet look at you now! Everything is new! …”

The rain, often caused by the storm, the black, the dark, the grey, the heavy. Does something unexpected. How fascinating. It brings new life, which brings new growth, which brings new blossoms, which bring…new fruit.

And He brings the bounty directly to those flat barren places. The unexpected places. The cold dark pavement places. There even there—He will bring fruit from the storm.

So this week during the storms, I bless you with the new fruit that God promises to bring out of every storm, every tear, every drop of rain and deep rumblings through His loving and powerful work on the cross.

“Yet look at you now! Everything is new! Although you were once distant and far away from God, now you have been brought delightfully close to him through the sacred blood of Jesus—you have actually been united to Christ!”

—Paul’s heart to believers recorded in Ephesians 2:13

And a little more refreshment to the soul.

I bless you to meditate on the words of Spirit Move by Bethel MusicKalley Heiligenthal

I feel it in my bones, You're about to move
I feel it in the wind, You're about to ride in
You said that You would pour Your spirit out
You said that You would fall on sons and daughters
So come

I feel it in my bones, You're about to move
I feel it in the wind, You're about to ride in
You said that You would pour Your spirit out
You said that You would fall on sons and daughters

So like the rain, come and drench us in love
Let Your glory rush in like a flood

We are fixed on this one thing
To know Your goodness and see Your glory
We're transformed by this one thing
To know Your presence and see Your beauty

I can see it now, Your kingdom come
I can hear it now, the sounds of heaven
You said that if we ask, we'll receive
We are asking for the greater measure

So like the rain, come and drench us in love
Let Your power rush in like a flood
